Apple Vision Pro NZ Release Date

Apple’s first foray into the virtual reality/augmented reality space, the Apple Vision Pro, was released in the US on February 2nd, 2024; however, there hasn’t been any news or announcements regarding when it might be released here in New Zealand.

Typically, the latest technology products come here either very late or not at all. Sometimes, even the biggest technology companies don’t bother releasing their products here; just look at the Google Pixel 8.

This begs the question: Will Apple release its Vision Pro headset in New Zealand? If so, when? And how will it compare to the best VR headsets in New Zealand?

We’ve done some digging and will provide you with everything you need to know regarding the Apple Vision Pro headset and when you can expect it to arrive in New Zealand.

What is the Apple Vision Pro?

Apple markets the Vision Pro as a “spatial computer,” meaning it functions like a personal computing device in a more immersive format. Within the headset, you can access Apple’s ecosystem of apps and services, such as Safari, FaceTime, and streaming content from various platforms, in a somewhat virtual world.

This mixed-reality headset integrates augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies. It’s powered by Apple’s own R1 chip, which is designed to manage a bunch of sensors and inputs on the headset. These include 12 cameras, five sensors, and six microphones, alongside dual Micro OLED displays for delivering high-resolution visuals. It also has eye-tracking capabilities and spatial audio to add to the immersion.

The standout is its “Eyesight” technology. This is designed to display the user’s eyes on the outside of the headset. Additionally, it features a transparency mode, enabling users to engage with their real-world surroundings without removing the device. This function allows for a seamless blend between digital content and the physical environment, for both work and entertainment.

When will the Apple Vision Pro come to New Zealand? Apple Vision Pro NZ release date

Unfortunately, Apple hasn’t officially announced when the Apple Vision Pro will come to New Zealand.

However, a reliable Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a strong track record of correctly predicting hardware-related Apple releases, has suggested that the Vision Pro will be released internationally before Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which is happening on June 10th, 2024.

While we cannot confirm that this rumour is correct, Ming-Chi has elaborated on why the Vision Pro hasn’t been released internationally, stating, “The reasons why Apple hasn’t released Vision Pro in non-U.S. markets yet include 1) the limited initial supply of Vision Pro, 2) first ensuring that the sales process in the US market goes smoothly, and 3) the time needed to modify the algorithms to comply with regulations in other countries.”

If the rumours are true, this means we could potentially see Apple’s Vision Pro arriving on New Zealand shores from late May to early June.

How much will the Apple Vision Pro cost in New Zealand?

The Apple Vision Pro is a very expensive headset, costing USD$3,499 with today’s currency conversion rates that’s about NZD$5, 800.

It’s also important to remember that the price increases based on which version of the Vision Pro you get, with the overall cost being dependent on how much internal storage you opt for.

Based on these numbers, one thing is for sure: the Apple Vision Pro is probably going to be very expensive here in New Zealand.
