Apple has announced several new improvements to its Fitness+ subscription service, offering two new workout programs – Workouts for Pregnancy & Workouts for Older Adults – while also growing its existing Workout for Beginners program.
Apple’s decision to create a Workouts for Pregnancy program feels both planned and happily accidental. With existing Apple Fitness+ trainer Betina Cozo becoming pregnant the Fitness+ team were presented with the opportunity to share doctor-approved workouts with its users and decided to go for it.
The new Workouts for Pregnancy program consists of 10×10 minute workouts across Strength, Core, and Mindful Cooldown exercises. New mum-to-be, Betina Gozo, will lead the lessons, and she’ll be joined by Fitness+ trainers and new mums Emily Fayette and Anja Garcia.
The three trainers will demonstrate a workout suitable for each trimester of pregnancy to ensure the programs accommodates any stage of pregnancy and any fitness level.
Apple is also introducing a new Older Adult Workout Program, led by 67-year-old Fitness+ trainer – and grandmother – Molly Fox. The workouts are designed to help older users stay active with a focus on strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and mobility. The Older Adult workouts are done with a light dumbbell or just bodyweight, and others show modifications with a chair or against the wall.
As well as adding two Workout Programs, Apple is also expanding its Workouts for Beginners program with several new Yoga, High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), and Strength workouts. Fitness+ has also added yoga and mindful cooldown trainer, Jonelle Lewis, to its team.
“Apple Fitness+ is integrated with Apple Watch to build on the goal of helping people live a better day by being more active. With more options for getting started, and staying active and healthy during pregnancy as well as at any age or fitness level, we hope even more people will be inspired to keep moving with our amazing team of passionate trainers,” said Jay Blahnik, Apple’s senior director of Fitness Technologies.
“We are also incredibly excited to welcome Jonelle Lewis to the trainer team and can’t wait for our users to try new HIIT workouts with Anja Garcia. We’ve brought together an incredibly diverse and inclusive team of Fitness+ trainers, and we love seeing our team grow, giving our users even more options to find the best workout for them.”
Fitness+ is available as a subscription service for NZ$16.99 inc. GST per month or NZ$139.99 inc. GST per year.
